Dale City Volunteer Fire Department
Be a Part of The Second To None
Member Responsibilities
Upon acceptance into our organization, a member will be assigned to a duty battalion. Dale City VFD has five such battalions and duty nights are on a rotating basis. You will be required to attend all duties or find a fill in unless prior arrangements have been made with your duty officer. In addition, you are also required to attend the company meeting on the second Wednesday of every month.
Your family and your job always come first so if a conflict in your schedule occurs and you will not be able to attend duty on any given night, contact your duty officer and something can always be worked out.
PLEASE READ THE COMPLETE LIST OF RESPONSIBILITIES AS PUBLISHED IN THE PAPER FORMAT OF THE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
Please note that you will be responsible for signing a paper copy of this form during your orientation.
Cadet Membership
DCVFD has a program in place to promote volunteerism among high school students aged 16-18. Cadet members are assigned duty crews as any other member and are permitted to ride the fire engine. They are prohibited from riding an ambulance or a specialty unit such as Tower 13 or Rescue Squad 10. They are elibible for the same training opportunities as senior members and perform the same duties on calls as a senior member (with proper certifications and a parental release). The main difference is that cadets MUST leave duty before 10:00 P.M. on school nights without exception.
Cadet membership is contingent on parental permission and suitable academic progress (a C average) and may be revoked by a cadet's parents at any time for any reason.
Cadet applicants must print out and complete the following two documents:
Academic Inquiry Form
Parental Permission Form
Training
Training is provided to all of our members at no cost. When a new member joins, he/she enters under recruit status and will remain a recruit or "red hat" until they obtain either Firefighter I certification or EMT-B certification.
Health Requirements
Fire and Rescue is often a very strenuous activity and therefore any applicant should be in general good health.
Driving Record
All applicants to the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles Driver History Record from the state they are licensed with this application. The only exception are applicants who do not hold a drivers license.
